1. If you have not done so already open the recording you have made in Audacity.

2. You can use the buttons shown above to skip to the beginning or end of your recording, as well as playing back what you have recorded.

3. You may find that due to the length of your recording you are unable to view clearly the parts that you wish to edit.  To zoom in on a specific area click on the magnifying glass icon, circled in red in the above screenshot.

4. Having selected the magnifying glass, left click into the area where you wish to zoom into and holding down the mouse button drag across to the right.  A set of black lines appears showing the area that will be zoomed into.  When you release the left mouse button the display will be zoomed into the area you have selected, making it easier to edit.

5. To edit a part of your recording choose the “selection tool” icon, which looks like a capital I.

6. Select the area you wish to edit by dragging across the area with the left mouse button held down.  This is similar to selecting text in a word processor.  The selected area is shown in a darker grey.

7. You may playback the area you selected by clicking on the Play button or pressing the Space key on the keyboard.

8. You can then either

a. cut the selected area out of your podcast by clicking on Cut from the Edit menu.  This is useful for removing parts of your recording, or later on for moving a part of your recording to another part by cutting and the pasting.

b. Apply an effect from the effect menu, for example Amplify to make the selection louder.

9. If you have cut some of your recording which you wish to paste somewhere else then locate the area in which you wish to paste the part of your recording which you have cut to the clipboard and with the “selection tool” still selected mark the area where you wish to paste the audio in the clipboard by clicking that part of the waveform.  This will place a black line into the waveform.  Choose Paste from the Edit menu and the audio that you placed in the clipboard will be pasted from the black line.

10. If you find your recording too quiet, you can increase the amplification.  Select the part of your recording you wish to amplify, or press CTRL+A to select all of your recording.

11. From the Effect menu, click on Amplify.

12. A new window will appear, click on OK.

13 .To save you current work, click on File, Save Project As…
